What is Echinacea Purpurea?

Echinacea is a species of flowering plants (or Magnoliophyta) of the genus Echinacea , of the Asteraceae family. A plant endemic to North America, it generally has a purple head.
Known by the Native Americans of the Eastern Rocky Mountains, it has become one of the most used medicinal plants in North America and Europe (along with Echinacea angustifolia and E. pallida). A commercial crop was developed to meet herbal demand.
The plant is also cultivated as an ornamental plant in temperate regions.
