What is Dr. Valnet Lemon Eucalyptus essential oil?

Eucalyptus citriodora

(Myrtaceae family)

Some notions of botany

Native to Australia, this very large tree (up to 50 meters high) is recognizable by its whitish trunk and brown bark that peels off when rolled up. Its lanceolate leaves, which give off a lemon scent when crushed, are the main food of koalas. Fearing the cold, it has a predilection for warm, tropical or semi-tropical areas, or even the Mediterranean. This explains its presence in Brazil, Mexico, Chile, California, India, Madagascar, Spain and Italy, among others.

Until 1995, classified in the genus Eucalyptus, lemon eucalyptus is now part of the genus Corymbia, hence its synonymous name Corymbia citriodora.

A little history…

For centuries, Australian Aborigines applied lemon eucalyptus sap directly to wounds and injuries to promote healing. Traditionally, Cubans placed lemon eucalyptus leaves in the bedclothes of sick people to reduce fever.

In the 18th century, lemon eucalyptus trees were planted in Europe to drain marshy areas, slow the spread of mosquitoes and thus combat malaria.
