Native to North Africa, and particularly Morocco, this conifer, whose name means "power" in Arabic, is a majestic tree, 25 to 30 meters tall, which grows in the mountainous areas of the Atlas, between 1200 and 2000 meters. Quite similar to the cedar of Lebanon, and considered an endangered species in its natural environment, it is renowned for its powerful woody fragrance.

A little history…

A symbol of majesty and longevity, and even immortality in biblical times, the Atlas cedar has been renowned since ancient times. In Egypt, its wood was used to make sarcophagi and its essence to embalm mummies.

In Mesopotamia, it was burned to protect against demons and was used to make temple doors.

In Greek mythology, there are also several allusions to the Atlas Cedar and its power.

Along with cypress and sandalwood, Atlas cedar is part of the trilogy of sacred woods in King Solomon's Temple in Jerusalem.
