Gymnema sylvestre is used for its regulatory and regenerative (of the pancreas) actions in glucose metabolism. The Ayurvedic herb in traditional Indian medicine is used to control blood sugar levels and suppress cravings for sweet products. Gymnema is traditionally used to reduce blood sugar levels. Some studies position Gymnema as reducing fasting blood glucose levels and insulin needs in type I diabetics without causing hypoglycemia.
