Why is selenium essential?
Selenium is an essential trace element and cofactor for several key selenoproteins: glutathione peroxidase (GPx, an antioxidant enzyme protecting cells from free radicals), thyroid deiodinases (conversion of T4 to active T3), and thioredoxin reductase (regulation of cellular redox status). Deficiency is common in Europe—European soils are naturally poor in selenium, which reduces the content in locally produced plant-based foods.

Dosage
