Organic German Chamomile Herbal Tea, 15 g

Discover Herberry's organic German chamomile herbal tea: dried flowers in a 15 g resealable kraft bag. Certified organic farming.

German chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla, also known as true chamomile or scented mayweed) is one of the most popular plants in European herbalism. Its small white flower heads with yellow domed centers, harvested at full bloom and carefully dried, produce a golden infusion with a sweet, slightly fruity scent.

Botanical overview

Matricaria chamomilla is an annual plant in the Asteraceae family, native to Europe and Western Asia, and naturalized throughout the world. It grows spontaneously in fields, along roadsides, and in vacant lots. It is recognizable by its flowers, which consist of white ray florets reflexed downwards and a bright yellow, hollow central cone, which distinguishes it from Roman chamomile, which has a solid receptacle.

The dried flowers contain a blue essential oil rich in chamazulene (formed during distillation), alpha-bisabolol, and bisabolol oxide, as well as flavonoids (apigenin, luteolin), coumarins, and polysaccharides.

Aroma and flavor profile

German chamomile infusion has a golden to slightly greenish color depending on the concentration. Its aroma is sweet, slightly fruity, and floral, with characteristic notes of green apple. On the palate, the taste is delicate, low in bitterness, and pleasant, making it one of the most accessible herbal teas.

How to prepare the infusion

  • Quantity: 1 to 2 teaspoons of dried flowers (about 1.5 to 2 g) per cup
  • Water: simmering, about 90°C
  • Infusion: 5 to 8 minutes, covered to preserve volatile aromas
  • Strain and enjoy warm
  • Frequency: 2 to 3 cups per day
