What is milk thistle in liver tablets?

Milk thistle (Silybum marianum L), also known as wild artichoke, silver thistle, or Our Lady's thistle, is an annual plant of the Asteraceae family. Growing up to 1.5 meters tall, it is recognizable by its thorny leaves and purple flowers arranged in flower heads and visible in spring. Native to the Mediterranean basin and Europe, this plant grows in all uncultivated and dry soils that benefit from strong sunlight.
