Organic Oregano Essential Oil

Are you looking for an essential oil with a very powerful herbaceous-spicy note, dominated by carvacrol or thymol depending on the chemotype, one of the most active in all of aromatherapy, to be used with rigorous dilution and strict precautions? The Organic Oregano EO from Herbes et Traditions (Origanum compactum or vulgare) is distilled from the flowering tops of the oregano plant. Very rich in carvacrol (50-70%) and/or thymol depending on the chemotype, it is a highly powerful phenolic EO with an intense herbaceous-spicy scent. 10ml. Ecocert organic certified.

Aromatic and cosmetic profile

  • Very rich in carvacrol (50-70%): a monoterpene phenol, isomer of thymol, responsible for the oregano's very powerful herbaceous-spicy scent and its dermocaustic nature.
  • Intense and powerful herbaceous-spicy scent: pizza, Mediterranean, and very distinct note. When diffused in a tiny dose, it creates a characteristic Provençal atmosphere.
  • Phenolic EO: highly diluted use mandatory: like thymol-thymus and clove, oregano is dermocaustic when pure and requires a high dilution for skin application.
  • 10ml: Organic Ecocert. Herbes et Traditions.

FAQ

What is the difference between oregano and thyme in EO?
Oregano (Origanum compactum) is rich in carvacrol (50-70%). Thymol-thyme (Thymus vulgaris ct thymol) is rich in thymol (40-55%). Carvacrol and thymol are isomers—same formula, different arrangements—with very close aromatic profiles and similar activity levels. Both are dermocaustic phenols with the same strict precautions.

Is oregano used as an EO in cooking?
Yes, in very small doses (1 drop per dish). It is one of the most used EOs in Mediterranean cuisine to flavor tomato sauces, pizzas, and grilled meats. Its concentration is such that 1 drop is equivalent to several spoonfuls of dried oregano.

Is wild Corsican oregano different from commercial oregano?
Yes, wild mountain oregano (Origanum compactum, Morocco; Origanum heracleoticum, Greece/Italy) is richer in carvacrol. Garden oregano (Origanum vulgare) is often less concentrated. Check the Latin name and chemotype on the label to ensure quality.
