Organic meadowsweet for herbal tea, 25 g

Discover the organic meadowsweet for herbal tea from the Herbiers de France brand: dried aerial parts, 25 g. Certified organic farming, in a kraft bag.

Meadowsweet (Filipendula ulmaria) is a large perennial plant native to the damp meadows and riverbanks of Europe. Its creamy-white flower clusters, with their almond and vanilla scent, have long been used to flavor herbal teas and traditional drinks. The dried aerial parts are prepared as an herbal infusion.

Botanical presentation

Filipendula ulmaria is a perennial plant in the Rosaceae family that can reach 1 to 2 meters in height. Its pinnate leaves, dark green on top and whitish underneath, bear large, toothed leaflets. Flowering occurs from June to August in humid areas.

The aerial parts contain salicylate derivatives (salicin, spiraeoside), flavonoids (rutin, quercetin), tannins, and an essential oil containing salicylic aldehyde. It is from its former botanical name, Spiraea ulmaria, that the name "aspirin" is derived.

Aromatic and taste profile

Meadowsweet infusion offers a lightly golden liquor with a sweet and floral scent, featuring notes of sweet almond and a slight medicinal touch. On the palate, it is subtly bitter and astringent.

How to prepare the infusion

  • Quantity: 2 teaspoons of dried aerial parts (approximately 2 to 4 g) per cup
  • Water: simmering, approximately 90°C
  • Infusion: 10 minutes, covered
  • Strain: and enjoy lukewarm or hot
  • Frequency: 2 to 3 cups per day

FAQ

Is the Herbiers de France meadowsweet organically certified?

Yes, this meadowsweet is certified organic, without pesticides or synthetic chemical inputs.

What is the link between meadowsweet and aspirin?

In the 19th century, chemists isolated salicylic acid from meadowsweet (Spiraea ulmaria, its former name). The name "aspirin" comes from the "a" for acetyl and "spir" for Spiraea. The herbal tea is not equivalent to a medication.

Can it be consumed if one is allergic to aspirin?

No. Meadowsweet contains natural salicylate derivatives. People allergic to aspirin should abstain or seek medical advice.

With which plants can it be blended?

Its almond scent pairs well with horsetail, blackcurrant, or raspberry leaf. Observe the precautions specific to each plant.
