Why do these ingredients nourish the lips?
Shea butter (Butyrospermum parkii) is rich in unsaponifiable fatty acids (stearin, olein) and unsaponifiable fractions (waxes, phytosterols) that form a natural occlusive film on the lips, reducing trans-epidermal water loss and maintaining hydration. Castor oil (ricinoleic acid) is the only viscous natural fatty substance that adheres naturally to the lip mucosa, ensuring long-lasting hold and a natural shine. The three waxes (beeswax, candelilla, carnauba) provide different complementary melting points for a texture that is firm yet melts upon contact with the lips. Sweet orange essential oil naturally scents the balm.
