Zinc and Manganese: two complementary antioxidant cofactors

Zinc is the cofactor for Cu/Zn-SOD (cytoplasmic superoxide dismutase) and Manganese is the cofactor for Mn-SOD (mitochondrial superoxide dismutase). These two antioxidant enzymes protect cells against superoxide radicals in their respective compartments. Their combination thus covers the two main cellular compartments.

Vitamin B6 P5P: the metabolic cofactor
