Organic Chaga Powder, the king of medicinal mushrooms
Discover the antioxidant mushroom of the Nordic forests with French Mush Organic Chaga Powder: an organic Inonotus obliquus extract, obtained through hot water extraction to release its beta-glucans, polyphenols, and betulin. 30 g. Certified Organic. Made in France.
What is French Mush Organic Chaga?
Chaga (Inonotus obliquus) is a parasitic mushroom that grows on birch trees, characteristic of the boreal forests of Siberia, Scandinavia, and Canada. It develops as an irregular black mass on the bark of the birch, accumulating the bioactive compounds of both the mushroom and its host tree over the years. Used for centuries in Siberian and Finnish folk medicine, Chaga is one of the most antioxidant-concentrated mushrooms. Hot water extraction is essential: the chitinous wall of the Chaga is indigestible, and only hot water can release the beta-glucans, polyphenols, and triterpenes in a bioavailable form. Raw, non-extracted powder has no nutritional value. Certified Organic. Made in France.
The advantages of French Mush Organic Chaga
- Hot water extraction: breaks down the chitinous wall and releases the active ingredients in a bioavailable form
- Betulin and betulinic acid: specific triterpenoids inherited from the host birch tree, absent in other mushrooms
- Fungal melanin: concentrated antioxidant pigment, responsible for Chaga's characteristic black color
- Beta-glucans (1,3/1,6): immunomodulatory polysaccharides from the mushroom cell wall
- SOD (superoxide dismutase): an endogenous antioxidant enzyme naturally present in Chaga
- Certified organic, made in France: full traceability, pesticide-free, GMO-free
Key active ingredients in Chaga
Beta-glucans (1,3/1,6)
Beta-glucans are structured polysaccharides found in the cell walls of mushrooms. They interact with the Dectin-1 receptors of immune cells and are recognized as biological response modifiers (BRM). Chaga is particularly rich in these compounds. These properties pertain to traditional use: there is no official EFSA health claim for Chaga.
Betulin and betulinic acid
By parasitizing the birch, Chaga absorbs and concentrates specific compounds from its host tree, notably betulin and betulinic acid. These triterpenoids are unique to Chaga and are absent in mushrooms grown without birch. They are the subject of active research for their biological properties.
Fungal melanin and antioxidants
Chaga accumulates significant amounts of fungal melanin, a polyphenolic pigment with documented antioxidant properties. It also contains SOD (superoxide dismutase), an endogenous antioxidant enzyme. Its ORAC capacity is among the highest of all medicinal mushrooms.
