Fresh papaya contains carotenoids (beta-carotene, lycopene), Vitamin C, Vitamin E, and enzymes (papain, chymopapain). It is fermented by yeasts (Saccharomyces) for several months and then dried into a powder.

The powder is taken sublingually: it is left to melt under the tongue for 1 to 2 minutes before being swallowed.
