Here we will see the 4 major reasons why the approach described as a “trend” is on the rise!
soap, deodorant, toothpaste and solid shampoos
1-Don’t buy water anymore
On classic shampoos or shower gels, you just have to read the label to realize that the “famous aqua” water often represents between 70 and 80% of the formula, the only use being to dilute the formula.
Solid cosmetics are used on wet skin or hair, no need to add water since you are already wet from head to toe, all you have to do is rub and apply the product directly to you.
2-Save your money
Now let's see on the wallet side, what about the wear and tear of solid cosmetics!
We have all experienced that little piece of soap near our sink that no one manages to finish, and well for solid cosmetics it takes a very long time to use too!
A brief overview of the lifespan of the main zero waste cosmetics:
-100g body soaps: between 2 and 3 months
-100g solid shampoos: between 4 to 6 months depending on frequency
-40g solid toothpastes: between 5 and 6 months
-60g solid deodorants: approximately 3 months
Of course, the figures can vary but we are referring to the brands used by the team at the store, such as Les Savons de Joya , Le Moulin à Soap or our homemade recipes by Marie, our DIY beauty specialist.
We therefore see that their duration of use is enormous, especially if we compare them to conventional products!
3-More natural formulas
As seen in the other chapters, the fact that there is less water is beneficial to us, both economically and in terms of hygiene, since not including water allows us to stop and limit the development of bacteria and mold (dry your soaps well). This greatly simplifies the formula, no more need for preservatives and stabilizers or antibacterials with dubious names and more or less good for our health!
Many cosmetic and zero waste brands have an initial approach to naturalness such as the soap mill labeled nature and progress or Joya soaps which have solid cosmetics and products are 100% natural and organic , without testing on animals , without coconut oil. palm and overwhelmingly vegan and zero waste.
4-Solid cosmetics are ecological
The main process of solid cosmetics such as soap for example is what is called cold saponification (a cold chemical reaction between a low-fat base and a strong base such as soda). This process is energy efficient and requires simple equipment!
Another advantage is that it is very low in water and therefore makes this process very ecological.
Manufacturers of solid soaps also pay attention to packaging and their environmental impacts since they are often made of cardboard printed with ecological biodegradable inks or even a recyclable or biodegradable cellulose film!
The weight of the finished product being particularly light thanks to the reduced packaging and the formulation, the Co2 balance of transport is excellent!
A good bonus for the planet!!!
